Murphy's Law

As you know, given the delays on our visas to Sri Lanka, we decided to go to Mexico for a month.  On Friday, November 5th, we received the following news from our advisor, Nana, in Ottawa; news which we find encouraging.

"Sri Lanka has said they will make an exception for you and bring you in-country as soon as the visa is granted – they are postponing everyone else’s arrival to January/February."

We also get a sense that CUSO is increasing the urgency and pressure on Sri Lanka to get us placed, as they included in the email this correspondence,

"I’m flagging Wendy again as her placement in Sri Lanka continues to be held up by visa difficulties and we will likely lose her if we don’t find her a placement soon."

This morning, November 12th,  I received the following update from Nana,"This morning I spoke to the CD for Sri Lanka, Jane Rosegrant, who gave an update on the visa situation. For... Wendy, we still can't be sure when the permits will be ready.  However, I can report that good progress is being made and we hope to confirm that all 3 will have good news on Wednesday regarding an arrival date in early
December.

And a further note from the country director, John:

"Our belief is that this will be a small delay, but that the papers for the four volunteers noted below
will be approved and start the next phase by Wednesday next week at latest.  Then we can confirm with them and start looking at arrival dates (again).
We can't confirm this until then though so we ask that the volunteers wait just a little longer -and thank them very much for their ongoing patience...."
Murphy's Law says, "You will nicely get to Mexico and be called back to pack (in a hurry) for Sri Lanka."
So, the roller coaster continues.  What a ride.  Wheee!
